Staying Fit with Pregnancy #3!

Hey everyone, happy Monday!!! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready to get back to the grind!!

If you haven’t followed my journey yet, I’ll give you a little background!! I have 2 boys ages 6 and 4, and 3 bonus kids ages 9, 7, and 4…. and my husband and I are expecting our first baby TOGETHER to add to our blended family of 8! We are so thrilled that God has blessed us and our story has been quite a story!!

My husband and I met not too long ago… back in August of this past year, got engaged just 4 months later, and got married in Feb (just 6 months later of meeting)… and 1 month after marriage, Brent was able to move to PA with me and then it happened… expecting baby #6! Although many think its fast (which we won’t deny it is), we would not have it any other way!! We are completely content with our choices, our relationship, and our lives!

So now we are so excited to share our pregnancy together over the next 8 months! Currently, we are 9 weeks pregnant and will be 10 weeks on Thursday! Due date is Dec 21st, although I went 2 weeks early with both of my boys, so that may just happen again!

My goal for this pregnancy is to be as healthy as possible! I gained 60 lbs with both my boys and I do not want that to happen again! So, my health is my priority so I am healthy for the baby, and feel good as well… The healthier and active you are, usually the better the pregnancy and delivery!

I made a meal plan for this week and I have a workout plan and I’m ready to go! Now with my workouts, I am taking it easy because I have a sub-chorionic bleed, so I am restricted from heavy lifting, jumping, etc.. But I love my yoga, so that will be incorporated, along with jogging, and light weights!!

So here is my meal plan for the week! Keeping this week lower on carbs, higher with protein and fats. My body has done really well with this and I know gluten makes me feel bloated so if I can stay away a little, I am good! You will see in my meal plan, I AM using Shakeology, which is our superfood shake that is full of dense nutrition… This is something that has helped me so much with my nutrition and has helped with my cravings, bloating, digestion, and energy and I have been continuing to use it daily since finding out I was expecting and plan to use it my entire pregnancy! It is recommended if you question it, that you talk to your OB/GYN, but mine actually use it and are happy with the ingredients and I just need a folic acid in addition to my Shakeology and that takes care of my pre natal vitamin! When people ask me if its safe, I usually respond with: If you are willing to put fast food in your mouth, soda, or other chemicals in many foods, Im thinking a healthy superfood shake won’t hurt!!

My water intake will be a gallon a day… well thats my goal and I’ve been doing pretty good with it when I add lemon and fresh berries to spice things up!! lol

For my workouts, PiYO will be my program! I love my yoga, so this is a yoga/pilates type workout that will help me with my strength and flexibility! I was in Beachbody’s test group when it first came out and had great results!

Skinny Chicken Enchiladas

Cinco De Mayo was here and I have been wanting to make some sort of healthy alternative to a Mexican meal… because we all know not all Mexican food is healthy despite having some veggies on top!

So I put together this dish that was so so good!! Very simple to make, and it’s a healthy dish that the whole family will love!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice or quinoa
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, cubed or shredded (I used a rotisserie chicken.)
  • 14 oz. your favorite salsa (I prefer fresh if possible)
  • ½ cup corn kernels, frozen, canned or roasted
  • ½ cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • salt & pepper to taste, as needed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese, divided (I used a block of Kolby Jack and shredded it myself since shredded cheese has some extra ingredients that are not so healthy).
  • Optional garnish; diced avocado, tomato and fresh cilantro

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. and prepare an 8×8 or 2 to 2½ quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine brown rice or quinoa, chicken, soup or salsa, corn, black beans, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, garlic salt and ½ cup shredded cheese.
  3. Spread mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining ½ cup shredded cheese. Bake uncovered until bubbly and cheese is melted, about 15 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately, garnished with avocado, tomato and cilantro, if desired.

Feel free to eat all by itself in a dish and if you like sour cream, add 1 tbsp of plain Greek Yogurt as a healthy alternative! You can also use this as a dip with whole grain tortilla chips!

Beachbody Coach Opportunity.. A real chance at real freedom, real success, and real happiness!

The craziest thing I hear so many times recently is “Go get a real job.” Or “Oh, that Beachbody scam she does can’t possibly be a career.” Those people who are saying this to me, or hoping I would hear it… I am happily going to educate you on what I do so no one is confused and making these misconceptions about my career as a work from home mom and fitness coach.

4 years ago before starting this whole crazy Beachbody Coach gig, I was a full time ER Nurse. I absolutely loved what I did as a nurse, but 2 years ago, I quit nursing to stay home with my boys and work from home while still being able to fulfill my passion for helping others. But instead of helping people in the hospital, I was then helping people stay out of the hospital and preventing them from acute and chronic illness such as Diabetes (one of the worst diseases killing millions of people), cancer, obesity, heart disease, and more.

Since working from home and running my own fitness business, I have gained so much from life, than many with “real jobs” never get a chance to even experience… maybe thats why they don’t call what I do a real job??

Possible reasons why I am getting questioned about what I do:

  • I sell products off a website
  • I build a team which helps my long term income and stability
  • I don’t clock in and out at a building with a name on it
  • I don’t wear a uniform to work or have certain attire that is required daily
  • I don’t have a boss to tell me what to do
  • I run my business through social media and talk to people all over the US and Canada (and soon to be international)
  • I didn’t have to go to college for this education or have a certain experience/training before starting
  • Some of my trainings and trips I attend as a coach are at resorts, vacation spots, and I’m having a blast doing it

These reasons are absolutely reasons to question what I do! We are all entitled to our own opinion and have the right to be skeptical and curious!!! Which is WHY I am going to answer ALL these concerns!

  1. I do sell products off a site! I sell products that have changed MY life and my family’s and friends! They were my guinea pigs first along with myself to see if these products actually worked! What I have found is answers to many people’s questions and complaints about a healthy lifestyle! I found workouts with real certified trainers like the 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, and Core De Force, that help you get through a real workout. In these programs, you get nutrition plans with recipes to help you eat healthy for you and your family! You also get to calculate your caloric intake and figure out what you should be eating each day according to YOU and your lifestyle and goals. Oh, and that Shakeology stuff…. yes, thats real too! I have not found ANY other meal replacement shake that gives me the energy, helps my digestion and bloating, and gives me the nutrients and superfoods that Shakeology does. This isn’t for everyone either, this is for people who go for quality for their health and who want to live a healthy lifestyle the right way… working hard, exercising, healthy eating, and getting support, motivation, health and fitness tips from me as their coach! NO wraps, diet pills, patches, nothing temporary that could possibly be called a scam or bad products that don’t work! The only way it doesn’t work is if you stop trying!  So I do sell products that are life changing, and I also sell health and happiness!
  2. I build a team which helps my long-term income.  No, this is NOT a pyramid scheme and I do NOT make money from the people below me… If I am not working, people who signed up after me can pass me up and make more income than myself! How this does work though, is when you find other like-minded people who are ready to hustle and change lives, you are all building a team and helping others which builds volume, which leads to long term income that doesn’t disappear just because you don’t “sell” something that day or week. As I build a team, I do less “selling” and more training to help my coaches to become successful themselves in running challenge groups to help people along their fitness journey! I was able to triple my nursing salary when I actually quit nursing to work full time as a Beachbody coach, and I don’t know about you, but income is income and either way, that is food on my kids table and a roof over their head! I, just like others with a real job have been able to pay off debt, put money away for my children, take my kids on vacations, and have holidays for them without stressing about what is in my bank account… and not everyone with a real job can even say they can do that… I know working as a nurse, I still struggled to get debt paid off and have extra set aside.
  3. I don’t clock in and out of a building with a name or title on it. No, I don’t work at ____ Hospital anymore… I wake up and while my boys are still sleeping, I go downstairs sometimes in my Pj’s and answer a few messages. Then my boys wake up and I get them ready for school and my youngest Wes hangs out with me during the day and we work together, with a little play time in between! I also can take breaks when I need to so I can attend my kids events and sports which has been such a blessing! I do not have a time clock to where I get paid by the hour. I make up my own hours according to what is best for me and my family, and I can work wherever I feel like because my business is worked online! I don’t have to leave my kids.. they watch me help people via computer, phone, and if they are close, my challengers and coaches come over and we workout together, meal prep together, and have fun! I know that doesn’t even seem like a real job… it seems like a dream right?! Well, the beauty of your life is YOU get to pick what you do and where you work! You picked your life and career, and I will be in charge of mine!
  4. I don’t wear a uniform to work. Nope, I mostly wear workout clothes, but sometimes I work in my Pj’s! If I’m on a trip, I even wear a fancy outfit, or a bathing suit! I think my favorite part is the yoga pants though! They are pretty comfy and you can find really cool ones with cute designs!!
  5. I don’t have a boss telling me what to do. Nope.. I am MY OWN BOSS. I answer to myself. I don’t have someone I have to report to for an evaluation for a bonus or raise.. I simply help more people and give myself my own raise! Sounds pretty cool, right?!
  6. I run my business through social media. This might really get people. Like how can you run a real business using social media?!?! Well, it’s something called network marketing and it’s as real as it gets! You have the ability to not be stuck to help people or work with people only in the area you live! You have the ability to help people from all over, make friends from all over, and it’s a pretty wonderful thing! When you limit yourself to a local area, your limiting your success… this is an opportunity for you to change so many lives in so many different locations!! This is also how I share my journey and story so I can find other like-minded moms, military families, and fitness lovers who want to empower other women… because that is my true goal in life!! To empower women and help them see they can be independent, strong, and successful no matter what trials and tribulations they have encountered in their lives!
  7. I didn’t have to go to college or have an education to get my fitness coaching job. Sure didn’t, and that may come off crazy, but it’s not about how much you know, its about how hard your willing to work, how passionate you are about what you do, and how much your willing to learn and experience along the way! As a successful coach, I have my own trainings to help my team grow a successful home business themselves! I teach my team how to brand themselves, how to communicate with potential challengers and teammates, and learning about what Beach body is and what we stand for!
  8. I travel and my trainings are at resorts, vacations spots, and I have fun doing it! The problem with society is we are put in a place that we are suppose to think of a job is being something you hate going to… something you dread… all you who clock in on Mondays who work your 9-5 or swing shifts.. you dread Mondays and the start of another week…. I get it, I’ve been there and done that! But is that really how we should live?? I don’t live in a  fantasy world, I live in a world that you should be happy and feel complete with what you do every day, because you spend a lot of your life doing that and you only live once and you better live it to the fullest! So yes, I have fun working, traveling, and spending quality time with my friends that I choose to work with… because I have that ability!

I have the ability to choose this as my career, just as you have the ability to choose your career and your happiness! I hope this whole Beachbody coaching gig makes a little more sense to you now. It’s a real job that can give you real freedom with your family and loved ones, real happiness, and real success!

Again, its not for everyone! Its for people who love to be healthy and want to share their journey along the way, want to make friends and surround themselves around other positive and uplifting people (because we are pretty positive… even in the darkest times we find faith, hope, and a good future), and aren’t afraid to work in yoga pants at any hours of the day you want!

Apple Walnut Turkey Burgers

One thing I love is the fact that my husband is pretty amazing at coming up with some fun, new, exciting ways of cooking food with me! He supports us as a family to eat healthy, and is doing a lot of the cooking!

Yesterday, he came up with the idea of making apple walnut turkey burgers!  I never in a million years would have come up with that, so I must give him credit for this recipe!

Apple Walnut Turkey Burgers

Ingredients:

  • Turkey burger
  • 1/2 small Onion minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • Pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce (I use sugar free C. Hughes)
  • 1 tbsp evoo
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1/2 Apple finely chopped (I used red apple)
  • 1/4 cup walnuts finely chopped

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven or grill to medium high heat.
  2. Hand mix all ingredients together in medium size mixing bowl.
  3. Make patties the size of your palm of your hand to create proper portion sizes.
  4. Place on sprayed pan (with EVOO or pam) or directly on grill and cook for 8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked.
  5. Let cool before eating!
  6. Serve with your favorite side salad!

Mexican Turkey Burgers

As I am currently obsessed with Mexican food, I figured it would be in my best interest to find a healthy way to eat what I am craving so I can stay on track with my health and fitness goals!

Please, when you see the recipe for the turkey burgers, don’t knock it, til ya try it!! It’s absolutely amazing!!

Kudos to my husband Brent who made this recipe because I never would have thought of it on my own!

Mexican Turkey Burgers

Weekly Healthy Kid Meal & Snacks!

As a mom, sometimes it’s tough to get our kids to fuel those little bodies because they are picky, and just don’t always like to eat! I have done trial and error with my kids and have found some easy healthy ways to get them to enjoy eating without putting tons of artificial sweeteners and chemicals in their bodies and its cost effective too!

So I want to share with you an example of a weeks worth of my kids lunches for school, but also can be used as healthy snacks!

  1. Peanut butter rice cake with cucumber and hummus
  2. Ham and cheese sandwich with apple and cinnamon (the cinnamon will keep your apples from turning colors) and almonds
  3. Chicken, go-gurt, and fresh blueberries
  4. banana and peanut butter sandwich, carrots, and light string cheese
  5. Whole wheat and cheese quesadilla, apple sauce, wheat Scooby -do graham crackers
  6. Peanut butter on whole wheat cut outs, dried mango pieces, cashews
  7. Low sodium ham wrapped on light string cheese, rice cakes, fresh mixed raspberries and blackberries

It’s also easy to pre make some of these and have them all ready to go! As I meal prep, I prep a lot of my kids food and place them in sandwich baggies! I cut up the veggies and wash the fruit, cook chicken, and make sandwich cut outs a couple days in advance!

When it comes to my kids, health is a priority! Showing them a healthy lifestyle early, will prevent obesity and health issues in the future! Just as we teach kids to brush their teeth, make their bed, and pick up toys, we can teach them how to eat healthy, but still allow them to enjoy food!

Unicorn Shakeology

Ok, so you may have seen the huge talk on the Unicorn Starbucks drink that people are going crazy over right? Well, I will def say a cheat meal is ok, but people are truly addicted to Starbucks and not always in a good way. The taste may be great for people, it may give them energy, but what about the nutrition? So many of these people will complain and talk about how they are unhealthy, out of shape, and unhappy, but yet, they continue to make choices to drink drinks such as this full of calories, carbs, sugar, and artificial sweeteners and flavors!

So as a fitness coach, my job is to help people find the healthy alternatives so you can still enjoy your food and drinks, but removing the crap that does not help you get closer to your goals, and add in dense nutrition and superfoods and will not leave you feeling guilty!!

So here it is!!!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 scoop vanilla Shakeology
  • 1/2 scoop strawberry Shakeology
  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries and raspberries
  • 1 tsp natural Peanut Butter
  • 1 squirt sugar free whipped cream
  • 1 tsp sprinkles

Directions:

  1. With a blender cup, add 4 ice cubes and 4 oz water.
  2. Add 1/2 scoop Vanilla Shakeology.
  3. Add 1 tsp natural peanut butter.
  4. Blend… and set aside in a cup.
  5. Rinse cup and add another 4 ounces water and 4 ice cubes.
  6. Add Strawberry Shakeology and 1/2 cup fresh berries.
  7. Blend….
  8. In a separate cup, add both strawberry and vanilla to one cup, one at a time to separate the colors.
  9. Top off with Whipped cream and sprinkles!
  10. ENJOY!!!!!!

So lets compare really quick…  because this makes a HUGEEEEE difference with the nutrition facts, but also the nutrients that your getting!

Starbucks Unicorn Treat:

  • 450 Calories
  • 80 Carbohydrates
  • 12 grams fat
  • 76 grams sugar

And then we have…

Unicorn Shakeology Treat: FYI… this is a full meal replacement!

  • 290 calories
  • 40 carbs
  • 10 grams fat
  • 14 grams sugar

We can also mention here that Shakeology is full of pre and pro-biotics to help support digestive health and regularity, antioxidants to help fight free radicals and support immune health, superfoods and phytonutrients to support health and vitality, and a great protein blend to help build lean muscle and reduce cravings!

I don’t think Starbucks can beat that one!!

Workout Without Weights & Challenge Yourself!

I know most people think you have to lift heavy at the gym in order to get in really good shape…. ummmm FALSE!!! I have experience in the gym and I have experience working out at home and let me just say that you can burn a TON of calories, work up a sweat, and get in amazing shape by working out without weights and these workouts can be done ANYWHERE… Your living room, basement, bedroom, heck, even your hallway!

First things first… Let’s get something straight. If you are not pushing yourself, or sweating, your probably not working hard enough…. and if your taking too long of breaks, your heart rate isn’t getting up and your not challenging yourself and those results will not be as good as if you were giving it all you got!

So, let’s do these exercises I am about to share and really… give it ALL YOU GOT! If you can challenge yourself and push with little to no breaks in between, your heart rate will be up, you will be sweating, and those results will come…. of course you need to be eating healthy too! You cannot workout a bad diet my friends!!

If you need to modify, then modify! You will notice that after you get through a good bit, it will repeat, but adding in more as you continue! If you break, do not take any longer than 30 seconds! Ok, if your really tired and more of a beginner, you can take another 30 seconds if you need to, but be sure you are challenging yourself!

No weights needed, but you will work every part of your body in this workout!! Comment below how this workout went for you!!

How To Have a Healthy and Happy Easter!

I love Easter and the kids also love talking about the Easter bunny and having their Easter Egg hunt, but this year, we are making it so much less about bunnies, and more about Jesus! After all, this was the time He gave up His life for us! He sacrificed so much just so we can live life and be forgiven and not live life in condemnation.

So today, my husband, myself, and the boys are going to church to learn more about the story behind Jesus sacrificing His life and dying for us on the cross and his resurrection on Easter.

Along with learning about Jesus, we are keeping this Easter healthy! Don’t get me wrong, I let my kids have fun and enjoy a little chocolate, but are in no way are going overboard! We have taught them that Easter is not about celebrating food and candy… it’s about Jesus and us being together! So we will make Easter eggs today and enjoy eating hard boiled egg whites (my favorite) and yes, I add a little Sriracha to mine!!

We also have an Easter egg hunt and in those eggs are organic fruit snacks, coins, confetti, and small toys!

With the boys Easter baskets, we add items like coloring books and crayons, crayons for the bathtub, books and DVD’s, and outdoor toys like sidewalk chalk, kites, and bubbles!!

For us mommas and parents, lets keep it healthy!!! We don’t have to fall off track with our own fitness!! Getting that workout in first thing in the morning will help from making the excuses of not having time and being so busy planning for our family get togethers!

Also, those liquid calories really add up!! Try to replace the sugary drinks with water! Then you have more room for food 🙂

When our family gets together, we do love to eat!! Its all about making healthier choices and portion control! Instead of digging into my chocolate peanut butter eggs that I would do before I was on my fitness journey, I make a healthy alternative and make other treats that wont keep you feeling guilty!!
